Glass
Crystalline Pottery
Port Macquarie & Hastings, NSW
The Story
Rod Page has spent 45 years refining a process that mimics how the earth makes crystals. Porcelain forms are fired twice — first to 1000°C, then to 1320°C with a silica-and-zinc glaze. Slow cooling lets willemite crystals grow unpredictably across the surface. Rust gives citrine; cobalt, sapphire; copper, jade. No two pots look the same because the chemistry won't allow it.
