HOTA, Home of the Arts
Surfers Paradise, NSW
The Story
A 17-hectare arts precinct on the Gold Coast's Evandale site, built around a 1976 civic centre—Alan Griffith's three-storey glass beehive—that has since grown to include an outdoor stage, gallery, and bridge. The bones are municipal; the ambition is not. Gold Coast's most serious attempt to give culture a permanent address.
